Coil springs and torsion bar springs
The elastic components commonly used in passenger car suspension are helical spring and torsion bar spring.
The elastic components in passenger car suspension system are mainly divided into two categories: spiral spring and torsion bar spring. These two components play an important role in the automotive suspension system, their main role is to withstand and transfer vertical loads, mitigate the impact caused by uneven road surface. Helical spring is a common elastic element, which is simple in structure, convenient in manufacture and low in cost, so it is widely used in automobile suspension. Torsion bar spring is a rod made of spring steel, its one end is fixed on the frame, the other end is fixed on the suspension swing arm, when the wheel beat, the swing arm will swing around the torsion bar axis, so that the torsion bar produces torsion elastic deformation, so as to ensure the elastic connection between the wheel and the frame.
Modern automobile suspension mostly uses coil springs and torsion bar springs, while luxury buses mostly use air springs. These elastic elements were selected not only for their functionality and durability, but also for cost and the overall performance requirements of the vehicle. For example, coil springs are widely used because of their simplicity and economy, while torsion bar springs are chosen in some specific applications because of their ability to provide better stability and control.
